Description
Lately, Barnyard Millet has become an important crop in India and is cultivated for livestock and humans. Barnyard is a very hardy crop and grows quickly and can grow well in poor quality soil and drought conditions. India is one of the biggest producers of Barnyard millet. It’s a gluten-free grain and a rich source of proteins, fibre, carbohydrates and micronutrients like iron and zinc. In regional languages, Barnyard is also known as Sanwa, Swang, Kuthiravali, Jhangora and Odalu. Most experts suggest that everyone make millets part of their daily diet to stay healthy. It is a popular food during fasting. It is beneficial for people with diabetes as it has a low glycaemic index. The high content of fibre and complex carbohydrates is digested slowly by our bodies, which prevents the spiking of glucose levels in our bodies. The iron content in Barnyard is highest amongst all millets, and hence, it is suitable for people with iron deficiency. Barnyard is easy to digest and can be given to babies of 8 months and above in the form of porridge. Millets are called Sridhanya Millets or Sri Dhanya Millets in Kannada, meaning nutritionally rich grains. TruNaturals Millets are de-husked and unpolished Millets. Dr Khader Vali, Millet man of India, recommends that everyone make millets a regular part of their diet.
