Black Pepper may seem a tiny berry, but this spice is the “King Of Spices.” It has been probably the most loved, sought after, and considerably used spices of the world. There is no cuisine or dish where black pepper does not list in the ingredients. It is so intense, powerful in its taste that one cannot imagine a kitchen without peppercorns.
The Romans bought this spice from South India, and they paid for it in gold. No wonder it is called has been called Black Gold. In Greece, Black Pepper was so precious that it was used as currency. It was so valuable that a sack of pepper was considered equal to a man’s life. Black Pepper was one reason that Vasco da Gama traveled across half the world to India. In medieval Europe, It was the commodity of the rich and the noble.
